The Facebook catalog is one of the many nightmares Business Manager makes you deal with before you can set about preparing your own campaigns. Last time you learned that we introduced a new feature that makes preparing and setting Facebook’s dynamic remarketing a piece of cake. Now, our Facebook feed exporter gives you an even more comprehensive solution for the administration of product ads.
What a feed export is
A part of PPC Bee, it can turn your input feed into a data source you’ll be needing for DSA, Google Merchant, or Facebook catalog.
All you need to do is upload your product feed to PPC Bee, launch feed export, and you can set about creating your campaigns.
Feed export’s first advantage is that it allows you to filter products that are to be contained in the final feed. For example, if you already know that you don't want to be advertising for any product that’s cheaper than 50 CZK, there’s no use for it being included in the final feed. Simply set this easy condition: The tool then maps the feed’s attributes and chooses those which are necessary for the output format you selected. You can use completed attributes, manually entered values, or create a completely new attribute, using a custom variable.
Creating an ideal Facebook catalog
First, you need to upload a new data feed. Then go to the feed exporter and create a new export; choose Facebook Commerce export. Give your feed export a name, choose a correct input data feed (if multiple feeds have been uploaded to your account, pay special attention to this step), and then you can filter out your products.
Now you can start mapping and creating your campaign. The app pre-fills most boxes for you, using values from the input feed. We recommend you go over them to make sure there’s been no mistake.
Importantly, some required boxes might be empty if the corresponding attributes are missing from your feed. These need to be filled in manually as you wouldn’t be able to launch product ads on Facebook otherwise.
This can concern description, availability, condition, etc. Maybe your feed does contain these attributes but they’re named differently. In that case, the app may have not been able to recognize and automatically assign them to corresponding boxes. Simply enter the required variable which is supposed to be paired with the given attribute.
Entering required attributes
If the feed contains no required attributes, they must be added in another way. There are three methods of doing this.
1. Using other variables along with a custom fixed caption
Typically, this concerns description as a missing attribute. You can attach your own fixed caption to it, as well as a product name from a variable (title, product_name…) or price:
2. Manual completion
If the condition attribute is missing from your feed or catalog and you’re dealing with an e-shop, it’s likely that you sell only new products. In that case, manually enter ‘new’ as the attribute.
3. Using custom variables
Availability can also be missing as a required attribute. It’s necessary for the feed to contain another variable, one which would provide information and allow you to transform it in such a way as to make it usable as the availability attribute.
Let’s take the delivery_date attribute as an example.
In our feed, this attribute contains the “0” variable, i.e. those products which are in stock. Higher numbers or numbers which equal “1” designate products that aren’t in stock.
When creating a new attribute, simply select the option in the prepared form which says that if delivery_date=0, said product is “in stock”. Everything else is “out of stock”. You always have to choose one of the permitted variables that can be used for the attribute. Here, these concerns: in stock, available for order, preorder, out of stock, discontinued.
Give your variable a name. Once it’s saved, it will be automatically entered into the field you’ve been editing. As soon as all required boxes have been dealt with this way, save the final feed and the app will generate a URL in a few seconds. This URL can then be used on Facebook as a product catalog.
With this exporter, you can easily take an incomplete feed and in just a couple of minutes turn it into a complete product catalog that’ll work perfectly well on Facebook.
